ADA WOMEN’S SHELTER AND YOUNG WOMEN’S EMPOWERMENT CENTRE – A FEMINIST NON-PROFIT ORGANISATION

Ada Women’s Shelter and Young Women’s Empowerment Centre is a feminist non-profit organisation in Gothenburg that provides support and protection to abused women, teen girls and children. We offer free counselling where you can remain anonymous. We can help you in your interactions with authorities, and give you information on your rights as a crime victim.

You can contact us by email, our telephone hotline and our legal helpline. We have a teen chat for girls open one night a week, where teen girls can talk about whatever is on their minds. We also run an emergency shelter for women, teen girls and children who need to flee their home to escape threats and violence.

In 1993, The United Nations General Assembly adopted the Declaration on the Elimination of Violence against Women. The Declaration includes physical, sexual and psychological violence, as well as both violence in society and violence in the home. Men and teen boys maintain power over women and teen girls in the crudest form through gender-based violence, which has its roots in the unequal relationship between women and men that has been seen throughout history. In addition to protecting and assisting abused women, teen girls and children, Ada conducts advocacy work to promote a society free from all violence against women, teen girls and children.

Because threats and violence can also occur in same-sex relationships, our fundamental aim is to provide assistance and protection to all women, teen girls and children, regardless of the abuser.
